AMMONIUM ALUM/SALICYLIC ACID/MENTHOL/CAMPHOR - TOPICAL (uh-MOW-nee-um AL-um/sal-ih-SILL-ick acid/MEN-thall/KAM-for) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Carmex USES: This is used to relieve and prevent chapped, dry or irritated lips and to protect them from sun and wind chaffing. HOW TO USE: This medication is for use on the lips only. To use, apply a thin layer to lips as needed. Avoid use near the eyes. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is generally well tolerated. If irritation occurs, inform your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, any allergies. This medication may be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. NOTES: There are many products available to protect and relieve dry, chapped lips. You may try different forms (lip stick type versus ointment) or generics to see which is more convenient and effective for you. MISSED DOSE: May be applied as needed. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat or sunlight."
